St. Augustine's College's band director was found dead this morning in Charlotte, according to college officials.
William
Ernest Woods, who was also an assistant professor in the Department of
Visual and Performing Arts, was traveling with the school's band and
pep band at the CIAA annual basketball tournament.
"I understand
he was found this morning, but I have no details about how it
happened," said Crystal Roberts, spokeswoman for the college.
The college's president said he would be missed.
"Mr.
Woods made a significant impact on the Saint Augustine's College
community and our band program, from the program's implementation and
founding to the supervision of the jazz and pep bands," said President
Dianne Boardley Suber in a statement sent to students and faculty.
Woods joined Saint Augustine's College in July 2005.
