Local Band Shares Memories From Inaugural
Trip
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Family members and friends greeted
members of the Harding University High School marching band like rock stars,
when they returned home Wednesday evening.
The band represented North Carolina in President Barack
Obama’s Inaugural Parade.
“It was amazing,” said student Jasmine Moore.
She sent Eyewitness News several text messages and
pictures from Washington, D.C.
“I was walking down (the road). I looked to the left and
there’s the president and his wife and that was the best part for me,” Moore
said.
Tandrea Gibson said the feeling was indescribable. She
said everyone felt the significance of the day.
“We were the first band from charlotte to march in
inauguration parade for our first African American president,” Gibson said with
excitement.
The 108 students made it to Washington, D.C., because of
the generosity of the community. They raised $50,000 for the trip.
