Louisiana Band Headed to Inauguration
With every sound of the trumpet. And every beat of the drum. The Grambling State
marching band gets closer to history.
"It's just really kind of surreal. It's kind of like I almost don't believe
it's happening right now," band member Jamoni Booker said.
"It's an honor. It's an humbling honor. Words really can't express besides
happiness," band member Brian Wright said.
When Barak Obama gets sworn into office next week, he'll do it the sounds of
the world famous band. Of the hundreds of applicants they were pre-selected to
play in the inagural parade. Sunday, the two hundred and one band members will hop on the bus and head to
D.C.
"Historically and culturally, this should be a rewarding experience for
them," assistant band director Dr. Edwin Thomas said.
Until then, they will practice playing and marching for four hours a day.
And each day, the band members practice in pride for their historical black
college. So, to them, ushering in the first black president will be one of the
most important things they'll ever do."
"It's an honor to be a part of an inauguration for any president. But, for it
to be the first African-American president, which is really awesome, is really
significant," Booker continued.
Significance they say will last a lifetime.
